America is a single continental mass (joined land) composed by five main tecnonic plates (the largest being the south and north American plaques) and divided in three different regions (north, central, south). There are 14 main tectonic plates on earth, and its common for continents to have various tectonic plates, or even share them (as its the case w asia and oceania)
the bicontinental model is taught as a norm in the following regions: English speaking countries, other former UK/USA colonies, few countries in Europe
while unicontinental model is taught as a norm in the following regions: hispanic countries, other latinoamerican countries, european romance-speaking countries (such as italy, france, portugal, etc) and greece. Oh! and the UNO.
who do you think benefits from each model? is there a genuine geological reason behind this, or is it purely ideological/ethnical? why isn't there a consensus?
